Dear Riverdale Farm Visitors:
It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Dolly, our beloved Clydesdale horse, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, as a result of complications due to old age.

Dolly was 27 years old, and led a long and happy life being lovingly cared for by farm staff. She was admired and adored by many people since she arrived at Riverdale Farm at the age of 8.

Her calm and gentle demeanor made her a favourite with all the staff and the thousands of visitors who have come to the farm over the years. Dolly will be missed, and remembered always.

Sincerely,
Riverdale Farm Staff

Riverdale Farm: Possible Closure

The city consultant's review of core services provided through the city’s Parks and Environment committee was released July 14.

KPMG suggests eliminating the small zoos at High Park and Centre Island plus Riverdale Farm, as well as the Toronto Environment Office and horticultural services. Other cost-saving suggestions flowing from the report include cutting the grass in parks less frequently and contracting out such park maintenance, and planting fewer trees.

The City of Toronto Manager has recommended that the Parks and Environment Committee consider the List of Opportunities identified in Appendix A, Part 2 of the report (PLEASE REVIEW) as part of meeting the 2012 budget reduction targets and make recommendations to the Executive Committee for its September 19, 2011 meeting.

On Thursday July 21 at 09h30, the Parks and Environment Committee will hear feedback from anyone who wishes to make an in-person deputation. In order to do so, however, you must first register your intent to participate. You can do that by connecting to:

http://app.toronto.ca/tmmis/viewAgendaItemHistory.do?item=2011.PE6.1
You may not be able to access this link using Firefore. If so, please scroll up and see posting on July 15**

If you cannot make it in person, you can still connect to this site and submit your written feedback.

If Riverdale Park West and Riverdale Farm are special and valuable to you, please consider taking some time in the next few days to review the high level report and participating in this public feedback session. Either in person or in writing, your feedback is important.
